Abstract

During the past several decades the increasing complexity of problem solving by individuals and institutions (both public and private) has emphasized the importance of information: its acquisition, processing and use. The rapid development of technology has provided new options for generating, processing and distributing data-increasing individual and collective awareness with concomitant with clerical functions have been entrusted with new definitions. New vocations based on the applications of data and knowledge have emerged. These developments have challenged and continue to challenge institutions in their charge to prepare individuals for such vocations.
