OJS and PlumX: Altmetrics at the University of Pittsburgh and beyond

Abstract

This lightning talk, presented at the 2014 Annual General Meeting of the Public Knowledge Project (PKP), describes how the University Library System, University of Pittsburgh has incorporated alternative metrics of research impact into its journal publishing program. The talk explains why altmetrics are important and how, through their partnership with Plum Analytics, Pitt has embedded altmetrics into Open Journal Systems (OJS). Also highlighted are Pitt's contributions to the OJS community through the development of an OJS plugin to embed the PlumX widget into any OJS journal. The talk closes with a description of Pitt's work on applying the emerging NISO SUSHI-Lite standard to help share and display article level metrics more generally, allowing systems like PlumX to work with a variety of e-publishing platforms including OJS.
