Abstract

Proceedings of a conference held at the University of Warwick in Coventry, UK, on July 6-7, 2000, which was sponsored by the Society of College, National and University Libraries (SCONUL), and explored the Seven Pillars model of information literacy proposed in a briefing paper issued by SCONUL in October 1999, in the context of changing patterns in the provision of information skills training and in the organization of information literacy education within higher education institutions. Contains edited versions of the papers presented at the conference, including “Skills for the future,” the keynote address by Sheila Corrall, Chair of the Information Services National Training Organization (isNTO); “Wisdom or welfare: The seven pillars model,” by Stephen Town, a member of the SCONUL Task Force on Information Skills that developed the Seven Pillars model; and “Skills for the new learning age,” by Andrew MacDonald, director of information services at the University of Sunderland.
