Abstract

This is a study of four Borges manuscripts that have to do with his ideas about time and history: "Historia de la eternidad" (1936), "El escritor argentino y la tradición" (1951), "El pudor de la historia" (1952) and "Destino escandinavo" (1953). Using the techniques of genetic criticism, the essay shows how Borges's compositional techniques, including his use of sources and extensive rewriting, hone his expression of his reflections on time and history.
