Abstract
The Digital Gazetteer of the Song Dynasty (DGSD) is a database of information about the changing administrative geography of China during the Song Dynasty (906-1276 CE). It is derived primarily from An Alphabetical List of Geographical Names in Song China, an index by Hope Wright that was originally published by the Centre de Recherches Historiques of the École Pratique des Hautes Études in 1958. We developed a digital version of the data to support analysis and data visualization for Ruth Mostern's book Dividing the Realm in Order to Govern: The Spatial Organization of the Song State (Harvard Asia Center, 2011). The native format of the DGSD is a MySQL database. The site also includes an Access version, derived shapefiles, and high resolution versions of the images reproduced in Dividing the Realm.
