Abstract

Describes the Information Literacy Network at the University of Sheffield, which was formed as an innovative partnership between the University Library, Department of Information Studies, and Centre for Inquiry-based Learning in the Arts and Social Sciences (CILASS), a national Centre of Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL). The Network was formed as an interdisciplinary special interest group of information faculty, library practitioners, and educational developers, with the mission to advance information literacy in the institution. Its activities and outputs include curriculum development projects based on inquiry-based pedagogy, information skills tutorials customized for academic departments and embedded in the institutional virtual learning environment (course management system), auditing the curricular integration of information literacy and assessing information literacy competencies of students, and partnering with students through projects and workshops.
