Abstract

Creating and assessing student speech samples can be a challenge for even experienced teachers. The Recorded Speaking Activity (RSA) has been used program-wide across levels in a medium-sized, university-based IEP for over ten years. The first part of the presentation will focus on the history and development of the RSA, the pedagogical function of each section of the activity and the theoretical foundation. Next, the presentation will provide a description of the activity assessment using standardized grade forms and the spoken feedback provided by teachers to the students. Finally, teachers will receive a detailed explanation of how to easily create a similar activity using an e-learning platform and/or other free online software. Teachers will leave the presentation with the tools to implement an effective and engaging accuracy- and fluency-building activity in their own programs.
