Abstract

This submission contains data and codebooks from several personality studies conducted 1990-2017, organized by assessment instrument. For demographic information about the study participants, please refer to Background Information Questionnaire (BIQ) - Personality Studies (http://d-scholarship.pitt.edu/id/eprint/35424).

Studies:

1. Interpersonal Functioning and Emotion in Borderline Personality ("Emotion and Interpersonal Functioning")
2. Interpersonal Functioning and Emotion in Borderline Personality ("Couples")

Description:
(From Zanarini et. al, 2003) The MSI-BPD is based on a subset of the questions that comprise the borderline module of the Diagnostic Interview for DSM-IV Personality Disorders or DIPD-IV, one of the reliable semistructured interviews for diagnosing Axis II disorders. Each endorsed item is worth 1 point on a scale that ranges from 0 to 10. This instrument is a ten-item, true-false, self-report questionnaire.

Data Notes: In our own version, item 2 has been split into items 2a and 2b. A “yes” or “true” response for either 2a or 2b (or both) resulted in a single positive score. The cut-off for a potential BPD diagnosis was a 7.

During screening for Emotion and Interpersonal Functioning, participants were stratified into 3 groups based on their McLean score: 1-2, 3-4, and 5 or greater.

Reliability: (From Zanarini, et. al, 2003) The internal consistency of the MSI-BPD (raw or unstandardized scores) was assessed using Cronbach’s α and the resulting coefficient was a high 0.74
