Abstract

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) published an advance notice of proposed rulemaking (ANPR) on August 22, 2022, requesting public comment on new rules and regulations the FTC may implement to protect consumers in data security practices. This report documents the public comments submitted in October 2022 to the FTC by nine students in the University of Pittsburgh’s “Evidence” class. The optional assignment is detailed in the report, which carries texts of students’ public comments responding to the Federal Trade Commission’s “List of 95” questions regarding data security practices. Each comment cites material students have studied in the course and incorporates evidence to support their comments.
