Abstract

This submission contains data and codebooks from several personality studies conducted 1990-2017, organized by assessment instrument. For demographic information about the study participants, please refer to Background Information Questionnaire (BIQ) - Personality Studies (http://d-scholarship.pitt.edu/id/eprint/35424).

Studies:

1. Validity in the Diagnosis of Personality Disorders ("Validity")

Description: The Personality Disorder Examination (PDE) is a semi-structured clinical interview developed to systematically survey the phenomenology and life experiences relevant to the diagnosis of all of the personality disorders in DSM-III (Loranger, Susman, Oldham, & Russakoff, 1987). The PDE data file provides information on suspected Axis II diagnoses, number of criteria met, dimensional scores, and number of criteria based upon informants (patient, significant other, combined).

Data Notes:
• There are two data files for the PDE: the patient dataset and combined dataset
• ‘Patient’ scores were generated from data collected from the patient only; no collaborating data from significant others was utilized in the scoring or rating of items.
• ‘Combined’ scores were generated by interviewers using data collected from both the patient and a significant other
• Dataset is in a flat format; ie., patient, SO, and combined ratings are different variables rather than distinct cases.
• Item scores range from 0-2. Per PDE scoring instructions, 0=absent; 1=exaggerated or accentuated; 2=criterion level or pathological.
• Mixed PD can be understood as PD NOS.
• The dimensional score is the sum of all items.
• Criteria score is the number of criteria met with a score of 2.
