Abstract

This report captures the work of the Institute of Politics Lead-safe Demolition Working Group. The report outlines the negative health effects of lead exposure. Additionally, it examines the impacts on quality of life and public safety of blight and funding mechanisms for demolition in southwestern Pennsylvania. Further, the report provides national best practices for lead-safe demolition and adapts them to create a lead-safe demolition model ordinance for southwestern Pennsylvania.
