Abstract
This paper is an analysis of the manuscript of "Hombre de la esquina rosada," a short story by Borges first published in 1933 under a pseudonym and then included in Historia universal de la infamia. The manuscript shows Borges's careful consideration of proper names and of use of the compatdrito's language in the story. The manuscript was originally in a notebook that also contained notes for "La postulación de la realidad" (1931) and "El arte narrativo y la magia" (1932), making the explorations of narrative theory in those essays particularly germane to Borges's bold and innovative structure of his first detective story.
