Developing a Library Market Research Service.
In: Midwest Business Librarian Summit, West Lafayette, IN.
Abstract
In the fall of 2017, our campus library was approached by the Office of the Provost at our university to assist them in the evaluation of proposed academic degree programs. They were already paying a private company to produce reports on the potential labor market for professional graduate programs, however, this was not sustainable. In reaching out to the library, they had hoped to capitalize on the specialized resources and research expertise to further this project. This initial partnership with the library led to the development of a library market research service in which business librarians researched and created detailed reports on the competitive and labor markets for degree programs. This was intended to help make recommendations on implementing these programs. However with position vacancies, staffing changes, and poor communication, this project was left hanging. This lightning talk will focus on the overhaul and formalization of this initial program by business librarians Chloe Dufour and LaMonica Wiggins. We will cover what was continued from past iterations, how we have been working to improve and expand the process for all parties involved and how other business librarians can use their expertise to offer innovative administrative services to the larger university community.
