Abstract

Currently, state and territorial health departments do not have a standardized health equity policy review process. Such reviews are essential to maintain accountability within their actions and policies, which affect the everyday lives of millions of residents statewide. The University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health and College of Health Sciences, Jackson State University developed a conceptual framework in efforts to inform a qualitative codebook to be utilized during health equity policy reviews of state and territorial health departments. The codebook was utilized to conduct a mixed-methods health equity policy review of the Pennsylvania Department of Health (PA DOH) Policy Inventory. The public health relevance of this project is to set the precedent for health equity policy reviews utilizing the conceptual framework and codebook in this project on state and territorial health departments nationwide.
