Abstract
Balancing between the freedom of expression, public safety, and social justice is a vital task facing not just university communities but the U.S. at large. “Building Capacity Against Threats to Discourse and Dialogue” will work not only to bring experts and renowned scholars on these questions to Pitt for necessary and direct conversations, but also to build bonds with important working groups at peer institutions to lay the groundwork for larger key events at Pitt with key working groups. In a world where free speech can be invoked as a legal defense for participating in insurrectionist activities at the National Mall, we must educate ourselves and the public.
