Abstract

This essay addresses the issue of electronic waste (e-waste) management. E-waste, described as discarded electronic and electrical devices, presents significant risks to human health and the environment because it contains hazardous materials. Improper disposal and recycling methods release toxic substances contributing to air, soil, and water contamination. The public health significance of e-waste is evident in the increased risk of chronic diseases, neurological disorders, and developmental issues in communities exposed to improper e-waste processing.
The essay analyses existing e-waste management practices, identifying regulatory loopholes, insufficient global collaboration, and lack of consumer awareness as barriers to sustainable solutions. It highlights the importance of combining public health perspectives into e-waste policies, encouraging safer recycling techniques, stricter regulations, and public education campaigns. Recommendations are focused on circular economy principles, promoting reuse, recycling, and sustainable product designs to minimize e-waste generation and its associated health hazards.
