Abstract
  • Xylazine is a veterinary sedative that has been increasingly detected in the U.S. illicit opioid drug supply and has been associated with new clinical harms among people who use drugs including development of wounds distinct from typical injection-related wounds or skin and soft tissue infections. This unique typology of wounds can vary in presentation from red-purple blisters to different sized ulcers with or without eschar.
